This print is dated 1856 and comes from Utagawa Hiroshige's series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. Its title places us at a flower garden by the Dangozaka slope in Sendagi, a spot Hiroshige chose to include among his views of the city. Hiroshige, also known as Andō Hiroshige, worked in the ukiyo-e tradition and is regarded as its last great master. This impression is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where it came through the Rogers Fund.
On your wall: Its garden subject suits a calm living room, hallway or study, particularly where you enjoy Japanese art and gentle, nature-inspired decoration.

Utagawa Hiroshige, born Andō Tokutarō and also known as Andō Hiroshige, was a Japanese artist who worked in the ukiyo-e tradition. He is regarded as the last great master of that tradition, and his name remains closely tied to the form. His prints are a fine way to bring that heritage into a home.
