About this artwork

Hiroshige made this print in 1857 as part of One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. It is number 18 in the series and belongs to the opening section devoted to spring. The title points to the Ōji Inari Shrine, which is the place the view is built around. Hiroshige is remembered as a ukiyo-e artist and is considered the last great master of that tradition, and this print shows his interest in giving the places of Edo a seasonal setting.

On your wall: Its Japanese subject and spring theme suit a calm living room, a study or a hallway, especially where a quiet touch of traditional art is welcome.

About Utagawa Hiroshige

Utagawa Hiroshige, born Andō Tokutarō and also known as Andō Hiroshige, was a Japanese artist who worked in the ukiyo-e tradition. He is regarded as the last great master of that tradition, and his name remains closely tied to the form. His prints are a fine way to bring that heritage into a home.
