Fukagawa Lumberyards dates from 1856 and is the work of Utagawa Hiroshige. It belongs to One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, where it is numbered 106 and appears in the winter section. The title points to the lumberyards of Fukagawa, in the Koto area of present-day Tokyo, and the print shows this working corner of the city as part of the series' tour of Edo through the seasons. Hiroshige was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, regarded as the last great master of that tradition.
On your wall: A quiet, gently seasonal subject that would sit well in a study, hallway or living room where Japanese prints and a calm, considered look are welcome.

Utagawa Hiroshige, born Andō Tokutarō and also known as Andō Hiroshige, was a Japanese artist who worked in the ukiyo-e tradition. He is regarded as the last great master of that tradition, and his name remains closely tied to the form. His prints are a fine way to bring that heritage into a home.
