About this artwork

Jalta is an oil painting on canvas by Ivan Aivazovsky, dated 1838. As the title tells us, it shows Yalta, a place on the Crimean coast. Aivazovsky grew up in Feodosia, on the Black Sea, and spent much of his life there, and he is remembered above all for his sea paintings. Today this work belongs to the collection of the Feodosia National Gallery that bears his name, in the town where he was based.

On your wall: A coastal landscape like this suits a living room, study or hallway, particularly where you want a calm, traditional note alongside wood, books or neutral walls.
