About this artwork

Painted in 1906, this landscape by Ferdinand Hodler looks over Lake Geneva towards the Savoy mountains, in the Haute-Savoie region of France. Hodler was Swiss and is among the best-known Swiss painters of the nineteenth century. He began with realistic portraits, landscapes and genre scenes, and later developed a personal form of Symbolism that he called "parallelism". The painting is part of the collection of the Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Villa Flora.

On your wall: A lake-and-mountain view like this suits living rooms, studies and quiet hallways, where a landscape can bring a sense of open space to the wall.
