This is a pointillist poster design. A man in a top hat and black suit is set in front of four women in bustled dresses, and the lettering names 'Victor Joze La Ménagerie Sociale' and 'L'Homme à Femmes'. Seurat developed pointillism and chromoluminarism, building images from small touches of colour, and that approach is part of what gives this design its character. The work is painted in oil on canvas and is held at the Barnes Foundation, where it is also known as The Ladies' Man.
On your wall: The dark suit against the dressed figures and lettering gives it a graphic, period feel that suits a study, hallway, living room or any space that welcomes a touch of fin-de-siècle style.

Georges Pierre Seurat was a French post-Impressionist artist. He is remembered for devising chromoluminarism and pointillism, painting approaches built on the careful handling of colour and light. He also made drawings in conté crayon on rough-surfaced paper, a medium that suited his interest in tone and texture.
