About this artwork

This 1890 painting by Alfred Sisley takes as its subject a path at Saint-Mammès, seen in the morning. Sisley was an Impressionist who devoted himself almost entirely to landscape, and he was known for his steady commitment to painting outdoors. Works like this one fit naturally within that body of work, where everyday places and changing light matter more than any grand event. The title points to the early hour, inviting you to imagine a calm, unhurried stretch of countryside.

On your wall: Its gentle landscape subject and morning mood suit living rooms, studies and bedrooms, or a quiet hallway where a calm, natural scene is welcome.
