This is a poster by Jules Chéret, made in 1896 for an attraction titled Moscou au Musée Grévin. It is a colour lithograph, printed in Paris at the Chaix workshops, known as the Ateliers Chéret, and it is large: roughly 125 by 175 centimetres in its original form. It belongs to the world of entertainment and exhibition advertising, where Chéret, often called the father of the modern poster, made his name. The title tells us the subject is Moscow, presented as a show at the Musée Grévin.
On your wall: Its poster character suits a living room, study or hallway, particularly where vintage advertising and Belle Époque style are already part of the mix.

Jules Chéret was a French painter and lithographer who became a leading figure in Belle Époque poster art. His work in this field was so influential that he has often been called the father of the modern poster. His name remains closely tied to the colourful, eye-catching street posters of that era.
