About this artwork

Van Gogh painted this view of the yellow house in Arles in 1888, in oil on canvas. The house stands on a street corner beneath a deep blue sky, and the strong contrast between the warm yellow walls and the cool blue above gives the scene its character. A few figures can be seen in the street. At the right, a railway bridge crosses the picture and the steam of a train drifts upward. The work is also known as The Street, and it belongs to the collection of the Van Gogh Museum. It is an everyday corner of town, treated with the bold colour for which the artist is known.

On your wall: Its warm yellows and deep blues suit living rooms, dining areas, hallways and studies, where it can bring a sunny, lively note to the wall.
