Emil Cardinaux, 1921
A 1921 railway poster by Emil Cardinaux, inviting travellers to Berne and the Lötschberg and Simplon routes across Switzerland.

This is a Swiss travel poster from 1921, designed by Emil Cardinaux. It promotes a journey through Berne by way of the Lötschberg and Simplon railway lines, and it belongs to the tradition of Swiss rail and tourism advertising of the early 1920s. The title names the route plainly, so the poster works as both an invitation and a piece of information. Printed by Wolfensberger, it comes from the collection of historic SBB posters, and it shows how Switzerland was presented to visitors by train in the years just after the First World War.
On your wall: A good fit for a hallway, study or living room where a vintage travel poster adds character, especially in homes that favour retro style or a link with Swiss places.
