Nitrolian is a lithograph poster made by Leonetto Cappiello in 1929. Cappiello was an Italian and French designer and painter who worked mainly in Paris, and he is often called the father of modern advertising. Earlier poster artists such as Jules Chéret favoured a painterly style, whereas Cappiello took the opposite course. He was the first to set bold figures against black backgrounds, a striking change from what came before. His work is a good way into the history of the advertising poster.
On your wall: Its graphic, poster-style character suits a study, hallway, kitchen or living room where a touch of retro design would be welcome.
