Painted in 1933, this is an abstract work in oil on canvas by Piet Mondrian. The title points to its two main colours, red and blue, set within a composition of simple geometric elements. Mondrian moved over the years from figurative painting towards an increasingly abstract style, until his visual language was reduced to basic geometry, and this picture belongs to that way of working. It is held in the Museum of Modern Art.
On your wall: Its restrained geometry and bold red and blue suit modern, minimalist interiors such as a living room, study or hallway with plain walls and uncluttered surroundings.
