About this artwork

This Japanese colour woodblock print by Ohara Koson shows a lotus pond. A frog swims beside a lotus leaf in the foreground, and three tadpoles move through the water nearby. Lotus flowers and leaves fill the surface, and a fly can be seen among the blooms. The image was made as a colour woodblock print, with a black line block combined with blocks of colour. It was published by Matsuki Heikichi in Tokyo. Koson was a woodblock print designer working in the shinsaku-hanga and shin-hanga movements.

On your wall: Its pond subject and soft water setting suit a calm study, bedroom, or quiet corner of a living room where small details can be enjoyed up close.
