Augusto Giacometti painted this landscape in 1910. As the title suggests, it shows a hill covered with trees, a Swiss subject from an artist born in Stampa, in Grisons. Giacometti was active in Art Nouveau and Symbolism, and is counted among the first abstract painters. He also worked in stained glass, championed murals and designed posters. Those interests make this view of woodland and hillside an interesting one to spend time with.
On your wall: A landscape like this suits a living room, study or hallway, especially where you want a natural subject with a modern, abstract character.
