Painted in 1884, this landscape by Ivan Shishkin gives its attention to a single pine growing in sand. Shishkin, a Russian Realist best known for his landscapes, worked here in oil on canvas. The title points to a simple, focused subject: one tree, its setting of pale, sandy ground, and the open space around it. Today the painting belongs to the Rybinsk Museum-Preserve.
On your wall: Its single-tree subject and landscape theme suit a study, hallway, living room or any calm space where nature-inspired art is welcome.
