This 1905 poster by Leonetto Cappiello advertises Tog quinquina, with the name of Albert Trilles of Perpignan lettered on it. Against a flat yellow ground, a woman in a blue skirt and fringed shawl rides a black horse and raises a bottle. The lettering is kept simple, so the rider and the product are what you notice first. It was printed in Paris by Vercasson & Cie, in French, and belongs to Cappiello's body of work in alcohol advertising. Cappiello is often called the father of modern advertising for the boldness of his poster designs.
On your wall: The strong yellow and deep blue suit a kitchen, dining room, bar corner or hallway, and sit well with other vintage posters or simple dark frames.

Leonetto Cappiello was an Italian and French poster designer and painter who lived and worked mainly in Paris. He is often called the father of modern advertising. While earlier poster artists favoured a painterly look, he took the opposite path, setting bold figures against black backgrounds, a startling contrast to the posters that came before.
