This landscape looks out over the coast and the sea from a vantage point in the mountains of Crimea. Arkhip Kuindzhi painted it in 1880, and it belongs to his Crimean landscapes, a group of works that has been shown together with his other paintings in an exhibition called "Illusion of Light". Today the painting is held by the State Russian Museum in St Petersburg. Kuindzhi was a Russian landscape painter of Urum origin, and this work shows his interest in the meeting of land and sea.
On your wall: A coastal and sea view like this suits a living room, study or hallway, where it can open up the wall and bring a sense of distance and calm.
