About this artwork

Thomas Moran painted this view of a pass at Glencoe, Scotland, in 1882. It is a landscape in watercolour, a medium that suits the shifting light and atmosphere of mountain country. Moran is best known as an American painter of the Hudson River School, and often turned to grand natural scenery, so it is interesting to see him here in the Scottish Highlands. The work is now held in the Gilcrease Museum.

On your wall: A landscape of this kind suits a study, hallway or living room, particularly where a calm, natural scene would complement traditional or softly coloured interiors.
