This plate comes from the Hortus Eystettensis, the large florilegium that Basilius Besler published in 1613. It is an engraving, and it shows a tulip of the Tulipa gesneriana type. Alongside it appear summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum) and a narcissus. Besler was an apothecary and botanist in Nuremberg, and the Hortus Eystettensis is the work for which he is best known. The page rewards a slow look, with each plant drawn as its own distinct form.
